Singapura’s homeboy Naz officially released his first Angkara EP on 30 April 2012 (under record label Qilin), affirming the burgeoning presence of local quality electronic producers.

Having dabbled in bass-focused projects on the side such as revoltA and Frontline Soundsystem, this enthused debut reflects a level of proficiency in a highly transient genre. Its hypnotic arrangements of percussion command your attention, lulling you into the gritty depths of tribal atmospherics.

Exploiting his perennial influence in "Eastern Electronica", haunting arpeggione samples float amidst a landscape of dubby breaks in the opening track 'Kingdom'; following through with 'Hyphen', a dark ruffian-tinged roller (“chhhk-chh” shotgun reload soundbites) grazed with ethnic drum clippings and warm underlying sub-bass.

Dub is observed as a primary trait throughout the album as 'Gen-In' settles with some conventional arrangement, before caving in to a jungle breakdown in the last minute. “Distance” feature some kitschy-bleeps and vocal staccato, with punchy synth stabs, before closing with the magnificent 'Shadow’s Monologue' - all grimy bass-distortion wobble and nasty snare reverbs.

In essence, Naz delivered the coup of basstardisation – a ruthless melange of dub, breaks and bass - marrying ruggedly organic elements with the sophistication of technology, resulting in the timelessness of Angkara.
