ARTIST INTERVIEW: ANGELA FLAME

23 JANUARY 2013

Singapore techno queen Angela Flame graces the decks at Midnight Shift x Zouk: Alpha on 26 Jan. Find out about her top 10 charts and renewed love for DJing in this interview below.

How did you begin DJing?

I started DJing after discovering my strong passion and connection with techno, it gives me a awesome feeling of excitement that I can't describe.

What have you been up to these days?
I've been listening to a lot of podcasts such as Wax Treatment and 65D Maverick's. Both are very inspiring as none of them are predictable and that's how things should be done instead of the usual kind of DJ sets I am sick of.

Some of your favourite producers/DJs these days?
Surgeon, Jeff Mills, Aphex Twin are a few favourites and more recently Sei A, Blawan, Skudge, Untold, Charton Ravenberg and Rrose.

Best parties that you've played at?
Best ones are usually the smaller ones, where i get to interact with the crowd in a more intimate way.

What is your approach to music in general?

Listen to music with no expectations and a free mind .

Looking back at your career what do you think about how far you've come?
I think I've experienced a full circle /cycle by now, for watching things come and go and being reinvented and so forth.

You recently mentioned you've fallen in love with DJing again?
I've taken a very long break from music, that includes listening to nothing and not touching any computers or gadgets. Having done so, I was pleasantly surprised by my renewed senses. Not only has music felt magical I have also noticed I have a different form of attachment to it. I am now connected with this music I love in a different dimension.

What do you think of the music scene today? What's good/bad?
I think the music scene is looking positive with opportunities out there. Music-wise I've found more originality which is great.
